David Wilson first learned Dressage growing up in Southern California. He then was introduced to Dressage by Dr. Michael Gerry, Grand Prix rider, and trained for more than 5 years under Hilda Gurney, United States Olympic medalist and later with Herr Franz Rochowansky, Chief Rider of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna. Wilson trained in Germany in the early '80's with Gerd Politz, later coached by riding masters Herbert Rehbein and Harry Boldt, and consistently rode in clinics in both Germany and the United States.
With a Dressage career spanning more than 30 years, David Wilson has produced some of the top horses and riders in the United States. Having trained more than 30 Grand Prix horses, Wilson's winnings have included:
- Member of the Region 7 Young Rider Team 1983 & 1985
- Chef de' Equipe of Silver Medal Region Seven Young Rider Team 1993
- Chef de' Equipe of Gold Medal Region Seven Young Rider Team 1994 & 1996
- USDF Region 7 Prix St. George Champion and Reserve Champion 1996
- United States Equestrian Team Festival of Champions, Reserve Champion Intermedierre I 1997
- Del Mar Grand Prix Sweepstakes Champion for four consecutive years
- FEI Championship award for the 1999 West Coast Dressage Circuit
- Reserve Champion Title for USDF Horse of the Year at Fourth Level in 2001
- CDS Reserve Champion Title Prix St. George Horse in 2002
- CDS Grand Prix Champion in 2004.
- Founder and President of Rheinland Pfalz-Saar International Breed Registry 1996-2005
- Coach of five students to be members of the Region 7 Young Rider Teams1994-2010
- Chef de' Equipe of the first American Young Rider Team to compete International with two students trained by Wilson.
- Coach of two students to Region 7 Championship Titles in 2008
- On the young Stallion "Special Agent" he earned a career high point of 82% and swept the three largest shows in California's High Point Lower Level award in 2010
Wilson also has earned his USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold medals and has been a long listed rider for the United States Equestrian Team.
As his knowledge in riding developed, his expertise in horse buying emerged. By the early '90's, Wilson was buying horses for amateur as well as international riders, often times buying a horse in Germany, training it to Grand Prix in the United States and selling it back to European interests. In'98 Wilson purchased the Warmbloods "World in Motion" and "DiCaprio" (both at training level) at the prestigious PSI auction in Germany, trained each for several years and sold both as Grand Prix mounts to German international riders. Wilson also purchased, managed and sold Dressage horses for AMA Equine Ranch including such Dressage greats as Rio's Chalston, Rio's Banause and Rio's Biraldo 2, which were owned and shown by Alisa Marnell-Wilson. In 2010 one of Wilson's trained Grand Prix horses was sold to Olympian and World Equestrian Game hopeful, Christillot Boylen.
